Bashed, Beaten And Broken (Trip The Switch)
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 singles in - and Girl One And The Grease Guns are on a roll. Bashed, Beaten And Broken (Trip The Switch) is possibly their darkest sounding song yet. With its dystopia soaked lyrics, dirty doom laden synths and pendulum-like beat that seems to be counting the seconds down to something unpleasant, the whole thing stirs up images of dimly lit streets, looming tower blocks, glass strewn underpasses and Ballard inspired bleakness. Reminiscent, in places, of something from John Foxx's Metamatic, or perhaps even the music of Nine Circles, it's eerie and quite poppy all at the same time. The flipside is pure lo-fi synth pop at its best.....Made Out Of Perspex.... a catchy slice of 3 minute brilliance, full of strange lyrics, a pounding electro beat and rumbling keyboard sounds. There's even a sly mention, and perhaps a tip of the hat, to those obscure purveyors of DIY cassette culture from several years ago, The Instant Automatons. Recorded, once again, within the walls, darkened corridors and bolted doors of the Ghost Town. As usual, this 7" comes wrapped in a black and white printed sleeve with grip seal plastic bag, as well as an insert. All in all, it's another essential 7" release from Girl One And The Grease Guns.....
