Who are Girl One And The Grease Guns ? The names on the 7" sleeve simply say they're Sissy Space Echo, Warren Betamax, Charles Bronson Burner and Bruce LeeFax. What they play in the band doesn't really matter, but even the quickest listen to what is held within the grooves of this jet black slab of wax will reveal Sissy Space Echo is certainly the vocalist, at the very least. The names are great, the music is even better. Driving Without Headlights (Once Again) is pure hook laden POP!! It wouldn't be out of place on The Human League's Dare album, Yazoo's Upstairs At Eric's, or Depeche Mode's Speak And Spell. Chugging along with a catchy keyboard riff, this one will get in your head and remain there. The flipside, (I'm A) Willing Receiver is something a little different. We're still in pop territory here, but it's not as straightforward as all that. Powered along on a drumbeat that is somewhat reminiscent of the classic single Warm Leatherette by The Normal, and with strange sounds and deliberately skewed vocals throughout, the whole thing explodes at the end in a cacophony of noise the likes of which we haven't heard around these parts since the days of The Manhattan Love Suicides.
Recorded in the bleak winter of 2012 at The Glass Factory (a freezing cold structure in the middle of a timber yard) the music definitely sounds suitable for an environment such as that one. With a whole bunch of tracks just ready to record, you'll be hearing more from Girl One And The Grease Guns this year. What will come next from them, who knows ? But as the old cliche goes... expect the unexpected.
After 11 releases on the label, we thought it'd be a good idea to make the 12th a compilation CD... so, that is exactly what we've done. 20 tracks of buzzing electronica and guitar based brilliance by the various bands associated with Next Phase : Normal Records. Alongside a few previously released recordings, there's a bunch of brand new and exclusive tracks by each of the featured artists. Girl... [more]

Following the release of their one and only album last year, Girl One And The Grease Guns returned to their own studio to start work on what has become the "Transmissions From The Glass Factory" recordings. Not wishing to go down the obvious path of simply compiling these tracks and releasing another album (they did, after all, promise in the notes of Night Of The Living Electrical Appliances that... "Who exactly are Girl One And The Grease Guns" ? After the passing of nearly 4 years, several people are still asking that very question whenever they listen to any of their single releases. The simple answer is (and has always been) "It Does Not Matter".
All that really matters is, over seven limited edition 7"s, released between April 2013 and July 2015 on Squirrel Records (now sadly deceased)... [more]

So, this is it, folks... we're getting very near the end. This year, Squirrel Records will close its doors after 45 releases in total. Why 45 ? Well, we like that number, as it's the playing speed of a 7" single. We always said that 33 isn't enough, and 78 is too many. Anyway, Squirrel Records, throughout the years of its existence, has epitomised the true... [more]

The seventh, and final, 7" single release from Girl One And The Grease Guns - and maybe even the best of the whole bunch ! Girl One And The Grease Guns started out as a mysterious combo who refused to play by the rules.....which meant no real band member names, no promo photographs, and no live gigs. Here at Squirrel Records we wondered whether this uncompromising approach would instantly relegate... [more]
Girl One And The Grease Guns continue to deliver dark and moody (but also catchy and poppy) slices of electronic, synth laden goodness - and this latest offering is a worthy addition to their ever increasing discography. "Suburban Robot" is a natural follow-on from their previous 7", Bashed, Beaten And Broken (Trip The Switch) b/w Made Out Of Perspex. There's a real sense of menace in this track... [more]
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 singles in - and Girl One And The Grease Guns are on a roll. Bashed, Beaten And Broken (Trip The Switch) is possibly their darkest sounding song yet. With its dystopia soaked lyrics, dirty doom laden synths and pendulum-like beat that seems to be counting the seconds down to something unpleasant, the whole thing stirs up images of dimly lit streets, looming tower blocks, glass strewn... Girl One And The Grease Guns released their debut 7" last year. After that, they released 2 more in 2013, and now, here we have the 4th one. The previous 7", (Here Come The) Catastrophe Machines b/w Hitting The Brick Wall sold out in just 3 weeks....officially the fastest selling thing Squirrel Records has ever put out there. That single was a combination of blistering, politically charged noise... [more]
Bands such as The Jesus And Mary Chain did it using guitars and a fuzz pedal, but Girl One And The Grease Guns use the crackle, fizz and white noise of old analogue synths to create their own brand of screaming feedback overkill on this, their latest 7" offering. Previous releases by this combo only hinted at their willingness to utilise noise and chaos, but (Here Come The) Catastrophe Machines... [more]
In April this year, Squirrel Records released the debut 7" from Girl One And The Grease Guns. It went on to be one of the fastest selling 7"s we've ever unleashed on the world. Now, this mysterious collective deliver their follow-up... another 7" release which continues the electro pop approach of the previous single... but this one is even better.
