Today is a very sad day for us...
It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce that Squirrel Records, after 11 years of bringing you all kinds of noise pop and punk, is closing down.
The truth is, we've been struggling for a while now. We've seen a big dip in sales of vinyl and CDs, and it's now becoming very, very difficult to keep things running here at Squirrel HQ. Both myself and Caroline have had numerous discussions about the future of the label, and unfortunately, the conclusion we have reached is that there isn't going to be one. In this day and age when lots of record labels are suffering because of diminishing sales, the tiny independent labels such as ours who don't have a big pot of cash to draw from are inevitably going to struggle to keep going, and we have definitely found this to be the case with Squirrel.
We would like to thank everyone who has ever purchased a Squirrel Records title, and most of all we would like to thank the regular and loyal customers who have supported us throughout our existence, and who have purchased every new title we have released... you know who you are and we are very grateful for all your support.
We never started this label to make a huge amount of money or anything as crass as that. We started Squirrel Records simply to release some of the music we love, and our only hope was that other people would love it too. We have definitely achieved this goal, even if it is in only a small way. It's been hard work sometimes, and we've had our ups and downs, but we can honestly say we've had some fun doing it.
It isn't quite the end though... we still have a couple of new releases to bring you before the doors permanently close on Squirrel HQ. These will be released before the end of 2012. We'll still be stocking the latest 7" by The Blanche Hudson Weekend on Odd Box Records which will be available for pre-order very soon. In the meantime, we still have some great offers on the CDs and vinyl records we've released, and these will continue to be available to order until the day we shut up shop.
Please grab them while you can, tell your friends about them too, because when we go, so will the records and the CDs. We don't want to see them end up on a scrap pile. We'd much rather see them going to good homes.
So folks, it's coming to the end of an era. It's been a fun ride though, and once again we'd like to thank everyone who has helped us to keep bringing you this music for the last 11 years. That's the Squirrel Records fans, and of course, the bands... Insect Guide, The Manhattan Love Suicides, The Blanche Hudson Weekend, The Real Losers, The Sunday Reeds, Downdime, Savage Lucy, The Nasties, The Stuck Ups, The Medusa Snare, Ailsa Craig, Horton Parks, Pop Threat, The Cribs, Kavolchy, Jen Schande, and all the rest who we haven't mentioned here.
Thank you all... and goodbye.
