Girl One And The Grease Guns / Jen Schande
Girl One And The Grease Guns continue to deliver dark and moody (but also catchy and poppy) slices of electronic, synth laden goodness - and this latest offering is a worthy addition to their ever increasing discography. "Suburban Robot" is a natural follow-on from their previous 7", Bashed, Beaten And Broken (Trip The Switch) b/w Made Out Of Perspex. There's a real sense of menace in this track - it's robotic and eerie, detached but yet still melodic, as it pulls you into its super fast rhythmic punch. John Foxx and Tubeway Army might be lazy comparisons here, as would be early Human League. But, that will also give you an idea of what to expect from this particular track. There's no telling where Girl One And The Grease Guns will go next....will it be sweet, or will it be very sour ? We'll just have to wait and see......

On the flipside, we have something rather different....but every bit as great sounding. Anyone familiar with The Cribs 7" that Squirrel Records released back in 2003 (and re-issued a couple of years ago) will know the name Jen Schande. Well, she's back on Squirrel and sounding better than ever ! Having released a bunch of stuff on various other labels, including solo material as well as recording in bands such as This Is Thunder, Jen's now re-located from San Francisco to London, and brings with her these 2 latest slabs of rock n' roll brilliance. "The Russian" is a full on, full band 2 minute blast of power and volume, whereas "97 Tables" is a much more relaxed and gentle sounding track. With more material in the works and on the cards, we're really looking forward to whatever else 2015 brings from Jen. In the meantime, these 2 will do nicely......
All comes to you on wonderful limited edition orange vinyl too !!!
