Sissy Space Echo / The Edible Eyes Split
2 bands, both making their debuts here, on this brand new split 7" single. When Girl One And The Grease Guns decided to call it a day, earlier this year, we knew it wouldn't be long before we heard from Sissy Space Echo and co again. However, if anyone out there is expecting more electronic pop noise from this lot, they're in for a surprise. "The Butterfly (Fill The Frame)" is pure, guitar driven, Velvet Underground and Nico inspired drone rock... bearing very little resemblance to their former incarnation, but still recorded, just like Girl One And The Grease Guns before them, at The Glass Factory. The Edible Eyes, on the flip-side, however, is in fact 100% synth/electronica goodness. The latest project of Caroline McChrystal, Darren Lockwood and Matt Robson, who all used to be in The Blanche Hudson Weekend together, "You're Void" is 4 minutes of buzzing analogue Microbrutes and Juno's, wrapped up in a pure pop package. Two quite different sounding tracks, but with several ingredients to connect both bands. It's up to the listener to figure out exactly what those connections are. This 7" is released on Next Phase : Normal Records, and served up on heavyweight vinyl. Each copy comes with a Next Phase : Normal Records sticker for you to apply to a surface of your choosing. The first 100 orders will also receive a bonus CD featuring both tracks from the single. All in all, a really stunningly good debut - from 2 combos you'll be hearing plenty more of in 2020.
