Critically acclaimed Leeds band Insect Guide return this October with Dark Days And Nights, their 2nd album of jet black, beautifully crafted pop. Fans will find things have moved on since the band's first album 6ft In Love (an Uncut Debut Of The Month in November 2007) and 2008's EP of remixes by Spacemen 3 / Spectrum dream pop master Sonic Boom.
The dramatic, densely layered guitars of Stan Howells, and black coffee vocals of Su Sutton are unmistakeable, but the addition of Chris Cooper (Pale Saints) on drums brings a burst of post-punk energy to the 10 tracks on this new recording.
While the overall effect is accessible and unashamedly "pop" , Insect Guide haven't lost any of their eclectic, experimental edge. From the ice-cool swagger of the title track to the gorgeous Lynchian lament Hearts Don't Break, from the sexy, sinister fever dream of Crushed, to the sparkling cinematic pop of This City, Dark Days And Nights is a masterclass in the creation of musical light and shade.
For those who like their music hook laden and saturated with atmosphere, Dark Days And Nights is an album to fall in love with.
The first 500 copies of the album will also include a bonus DVD featuring promo videos, live concert and documentary footage—a mini movie, if you like, with a running time of approximately 45 minutes.
Do you like having a good time? Well, you need a good watch.

"Listen to them, children of the night, what music they make"...
Definitely one of the standout tracks from their forthcoming Dark Days And Nights CD/DVD, with the word "single" written all over it, Down From Here finds Insect Guide at their poppiest with uptempo hooklines and fuzzy guitars, but still with the sonic flick knives concealed inside their noisy outer layers. This release also includes 2 exclusive accompanying tracks—the wonderful... [more]
The ever brilliant Dead Penny Records brings you the latest CD single from The Insect Guide. Just ahead of their forthcoming 2nd album, here's another absolutely killer track taken from it, albeit in a slightly different mix. Wasted has "single" written all over it, and is definitely one of the most foot stompingly floor filling tracks performed at Insect Guide gigs. Three and a half minute... [more]
