Heartbeats Remixed
Thrushes hit single “Heartbeats” was an instant classic and one of the 10 most blogged songs in the world for the week of March 30th 2008 according to venerable blog aggregator
elbo.ws. Thrushes put out an open call to all their friends and fans to remix the track and the response was overwhelming. There were no firm guidelines and the remixers were free use as much or as little of the original track as they wished. “Heartbeats Remixed” covers a wide range of stylistic ground from the Happy Monday’s baggy tinged “Manchester Renunited Mix” to the John Hughes’ inspired “DtheNextLevel Mix”. Contributors include professional DJ’s, sound alchemists, and bedroom sonic reducers.
- The first mix is by DtheNextLevel, aptly titled DtheNextLevel Mix, from Arlington, VA. It’s a great opener. Very spacey and bouncy a la The Orb.
- Manchester Reunited Mix, is by Jonesamatic from Baltimore. Reminds of a James mix. Great bass and slightly off-kilter vocals. This mix totally propels. A good summer mix for the car with the windows down.
- Rob Sharp’s contribution gives us the Evil Gospel Playroom Mix. It’s roomy and dark and filled with a choir that lends a touch of the evil.
- Insect Guide’s No Bones Mix doesn’t stray too much from the original, but it’s a great remix in the purest aspect of a remix. It’s a wonderfully executed interpretation of the original.
The enhanced CD,
limited to 500 copies, also includes the stunning “Heartbeats” video directed by renowned playwright and director Kevin Doyle of the Sponsored By Nobody theater company.
